The Nation of Tanituti
The Nation of Tanituti
A tiny island off the south eastern coast of the cotenant. Often referred to as a silly place inhabited by silly people, but more times than not any Tanitutian will take the insult as a compliment. A very vibrant and flamboyantly colorful culture, the inhabitants of Tanituti are made up mostly of a clan of eccentric halflings, a clan of slow-witted inbread dwarves (though any inland dwarf refuses to associate kinship with them), and a horribly oppressed gnomish underclass that serves a societal role of servitude and slavery to their Tanitutian halfing overlords. The island is of a moderate temperate climate and has only one city; the capital city of Numbugit. Barely respected as a nation, and looked upon as more of a cult of self-indulgent, egomaniacal nitwits, nobody quite understands how Tanituti managed to gain its own sacred receptacle, and perhaps that is a story better lost to time.
The Most Magnificent City of Numbugit
In the capital city of Numbugit, there are very strictly enforced, nonsensical laws. For instance, it is entirely illegal, and punishable by twelve public lashings, for anyone to wield a sword made of cheese. Likewise, it’s punishable by twelve hours of community service if one does not eat pastries as the main course for every meal on Feastday. In fact, some of the laws seem so totally chaotic, intrusive and unenforceable, that it’s hard to tell if such laws actually exist on the books, or if the appointed Marshal Master Judge of the High Court of Tanatuti has been smoking a bit too much of the local island weed. One such example is the reflecting on the styles of women’s undergarments that are allowed within city limits, which is completely subjective to the whim of the Master Marshal Judge, and requires personal examination of the evidence if a woman is accused of breaking the law.
The Tanitutian Dwarves are a frightening bunch. Completely illiterate, and inbred to the point of barely being able to be considered to be of the dwarven race, they are easily startled, and possess an unfathomable unnatural strength. They often travel in herds, and are very dangerous when gathered together in large numbers. Loud or sudden noises in the company of Tanitutian dwarves are not recommended under any circumstances, lest one quickly find themselves torn limb-from-limb. Insanely, the halfling overlords of Tanituti have amassed and armed these unpredictable and irrational creatures as their primary army… a frightening aspect to anyone who might even consider moving against the tiny island nation.
The limitation of this mind-boggling force however are the borders of the island nation itself as they cannot swim, and are deathly afraid of water deeper than their ankles. It would be easier to wretch water from a stone than to try to get one of the creatures to board a ship, boat or raft.
