The Age of Despair (Common Era, 3400 – Present)
|3401 CE|| The Orc Unification Wars (The Clash of Orcs)
The Blackfist, a relatively unknown tribe of orcs challenge the five great tribes in a vie for power. In Eastern Ytaerreth, the orcs wage war against one another, and lead by a ruthless orcish warlord named Prigmus, the Blackfist completely eradicate the Underburro and Boarsweat tribes. Under threat of a similar fate, the remaining three tribes, Silverback, Firehowl, and Bloodclaw bow to the warlord. Blackfist becomes the controlling tribe of orcs, and Prigmus becomes the first chieftain of the unified orc tribes. Among the orcs, it is said the the fate of the Blackfist and the power of Prigmus were granted by Goktarik, the orcish god of war, and attribute his success to the Eye of Goktarik, a mysterious glowing blue crystal ore; an artifact of great importance to the orcs. The end of the clash of orcs quickly leads to years of savage rape and pillage against the surrounding cities and outposts of the surrounding nations.
|3409 CE|| Establishment of the Blackfist Orc Territory, and subsequent signing of the Blackfist Peace Treaty.
The nations of Highguard, Ytaerreth, Silverfel, and Debron establish loose borders near the Pine Knolls of Ytaerreth as official Blackfist Orc Territory. The four nations broker a treaty with the Orc Warlord, Prigmus the Black, that halts Oricish raids on surrounding settlements, but also grants the orcs full autonomy within the Pine Knolls region. The nation of Ytaerreth is granted a yearly tribute from the other three nations involved in the treaty for having to “host” the Orc’s within their own borders. The signing of the treaty causes much unrest among the those of the merchant class in the four nations. Particularly enraged are those either from or servicing the northlands due to the fact that the treaty provides no protections to merchant caravans passing through the Pine Knolls on their way to Clearpass, the most frequented and established trade route into the arctic nation of Highguard.
|3420 CE|| Loss of the Eye of Goktarik & the Assassination of Prigmus the Black
The Eye of Goktarik mysteriously vanishes from orc possession, and they immediately blame the humans of Highguard. The loss of the Eye is followed in a few days with the assassination of the Blackfist Orc Chieftain, Prigmus the Black. His son, Mainkis assumes the mantle of Chieftain, and reports that he witnessed Northmen perpetrate the murder, and only narrowly escaped the same fate. The house of Dinadan in Highguard swears the theft of the Eye and killing of the king are the work of a single rogue agent of the Arcane Council, but any consideration of this is disregarded by the orcs when Highguard breaks the decade-long peace treaty, and marches into the Pine Knolls in a preemptive attack on the unified orc tribes.
|3420 CE|| Highguard Orc Wars Begin
Start of the Highguard Orc Wars as the Orc Warlord, Mainkis the Marauder assumes control of the united Blackfist Tribe upon the mysterious assassination of his father and former Ord Warlord, Prigmus the Black. The war beings with the Nation of Highguard breaking the long-standing Blackfist Treaty with a preemptive attack upon the orcs ordered by King Agnarr, “The Winter Wolf”, upon recovering his daughter, Princess Valwynn, who had been kidnapped by Mainkis and the rogue Artificer, Marcus Zormil. The Battle of Clearpass, the offical start of the Highguard Orc Wars, occurs on Feastday, the 18th day of Ganitorn during the season of Labor in the Third Year of the Black Sun Dancer (3420 CE).
